Our Story

අපගේ කථාව

The North Shore Theravada Buddhist Temple (NTBT) began as a small gathering of families who wanted a space to practise meditation and mindfulness together. Over the years, that gathering has grown into a welcoming community centre in Forrest Hill, Auckland.

Guided by the Theravada tradition — the oldest surviving school of Buddhism — we focus on what is practical: mindfulness of breathing, cultivating awareness, and learning to respond to life with clarity rather than reactivity. Our doors are open to anyone seeking stillness, regardless of background or belief.

Today, the temple serves as a space for weekly meditation, Dhamma teachings, full-moon observances, and community gatherings. Whether you are looking for a regular meditation practice or simply a quiet place to sit, you are welcome here.

Mindfulness at NTBT

NTBT හි සිහිය

The Theravada approach to mindfulness is rooted in direct experience — paying attention to the present moment with openness and curiosity.

"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment."

- The Buddha
